Disney Has Pulled Avatar from Disney+ Due to September’s Re-Release

James Cameron is re-releasing the original Avatar in theaters in just over a month on September 23rd, and Disney is making sure that as many people will head to a theater to see it as possible.
This week Disney has quietly pulled the original Avatar from Disney+ worldwide. With the theatrical re-release happening next month, the removal serves two purposes. Firstly, Disney hopes it’ll help lure people to theaters to check out the remastered version of the original movie, and secondly when it does return to Disney+ we’ll see an upgraded version that we saw in theaters.
As of now there’s nothing confirmed about exactly what the remastered Avatar consists of, but logic says it’ll be a new 4K version of the movie with a new Dolby Atmos sound mix and HDR. As it’s been thirteen years since the original 2009 theatrical release, there are all sorts of nice upgrades Cameron can make to the highest grossing movie of all time.
Right now, there’s no word on when Avatar will return to Disney+, but if they follow the pattern with their recent theatrical releases; we’ll see it back on the service 45-47 days after it hits theaters.
